Alec Baldwin has just lined up his next project and we’re betting you’re going to want to tune in!

People reports that Alec Baldwin has officially signed on to stark in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming live TV adaptation of A Few Good Men.

Baldwin will be playing the role of Colonel Jessup, a part made famous by Jack Nicholson. In fact, Nicholson went on to score an Oscar nod for his performance in the original production of A Few Good Men so it’s safe to say Baldwin’s got some pretty big shoes to fill.

One person who has full faith in Baldwin’s ability to deliver a great performance is none other than Sorkin himself.

“Alec is one of our greatest actors,” said Sorkin in a statement announcing the Emmy Award nominee’s involvement. “Having him play this role — live on stage for a television audience — is a dream come true. This will be a brand new take on Nathan Jessup, and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms.”

For his part, Sorkin is set to executive produce and adapt the upcoming live rendition of A Few Good Men from his 1989 Broadway play of the same name.

The play, which is set in both Washington. D.C. and the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, tells the story of a military trial where a new lawyer finds himself going head to head with Col. Jessup (Baldwin) as he attempts to defend three men on trial for murder.

Though NBC is no stranger to live specials, A Few Good Men is a nice departure away from the live musical events the network has been churning out over the past few years.

We’re excited to see what Baldwin does with the role of Col. Jessup, and can’t wait to see who else joins him as Sorkin and the crew continue to round out their cast.

NBC’s live performance of A Few Good Men is scheduled to premiere on the network sometime in 2018.
