Election Day is right around the corner, and Alamo Drafthouse is doing its part to encourage people to vote by closing its doors.

Chances are you’ve seen tons of PSAs, Instagram photos, tweets, videos, and more encouraging you to vote on November 6. It’s a pivotal time in our country, and it’s more important than ever that each of us do our civic duty and vote in the mid-terms. To encourage people to head to the polls, Alamo Drafthouse has decided to remove an obstacle for staff members to get to the polls by closing.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Alamo Drafthouse will not open until mid-afternoon on November 6, and will cover the cost of a rideshare service for any staff member that needs a ride to their local polling place. As CEO Tim League explained to EW, “My mom instilled in me at a young age the importance of voting in every election, and I try to pay that forward with the staff at Alamo.” All 36 branches of the theater chain will participate in the special hours on Election Day.

This isn’t the first time that Alamo Drafthouse has waded into the water of encouraging staff and patrons to vote. The theater chain held a contest where entrants created their own voting PSA, they’ve distributed stickers to patrons who pledged to vote, they’ve partnered with non-partisan voting campaigns, and even encouraged staff members to become registrars to host voter registration booths in theater lobbies.

It’s encouraging to see a major company like Alamo Drafthouse not only encourage patrons to vote, but to empower their employees to take part in this year’s elections. Getting time off work and getting a ride to a polling place are two huge obstacles that can keep people away from voting, and we’re excited to see Drafthouse take some real steps to make sure their employees are able to do their part for our country.

Remember, Election Day is November 6, so be sure you get out there and vote!
