The upcoming Aladdin Diamond Edition release will include lots of never-before-seen content from Disney’s animated classic, including a deleted song.

Fun fact of the day: Aladdin’s villain Jafar almost had his own song in the 1992 Disney hit. While “My Finest Hour” received storyboard treatment during the film’s production, it was never properly animated because filmmakers decided against including it in the final version.

Despite the song hitting the cutting room floor, Disney dug up the old storyboards and put them back together with the song recordings. You can watch “My Finest Hour,” which includes appearances from nearly all of the lead characters, below:

In an interview with Jafar voice actor Jonathan Freeman, USA Today reveals there were several songs penned for Jafar. “My Finest Hour” was cut because it “stalled the action of Jafar’s attempt to take power.” (Ah, pacing… it’s always why we lose scenes!)

“My Finest Hour” includes legendary Disney songwriter Alan Menken on piano and is penned by Tim Rice. The duo won an Oscar for “A Whole New World,” arguably the most memorable song from Aladdin.

You’ll be able to watch the song again and again thanks to the digital release of Aladdin which hits DisneyMoviesAnywhere.com on Tuesday, September 29.

Meanwhile, the Blu-ray version of the Aladdin Diamond Edition will include never-before-seen Genie outtakes with Robin Williams voicing the beloved wish granter.

Aladdin may be nearly 25 years old, but the story is about to experience a re-birth. Recent reports have revealed Disney is developing two live-action Aladdin projects with one of them focusing on the origins of Genie.
