Ryan Murphy spilled quite a few details about Lily Rabe’s role in AHS: Hotel. Find out who she is playing and Jessica Lange’s future with the series.

Lily Rabe will be checking into the AHS: Hotel with a bit of baggage — the bodies of seven dead men to be exact. Rabe will play Aileen Wuornos, the killer whose murders took place between 1989 and 1990. Charlize Theron portrayed Wuornos in the 2003 film Monster.

Offering a little more about Rabe’s debut, Murphy said, “Our Halloween episode this year is called ‘Devil’s Night.’ I’m directing it. Lily Rabe is coming to that episode, and she’s playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really bizarre. She’s at the centerpiece of that Halloween episode, and that’s who she’s playing.”

In addition to Rabe’s role, Murphy also spoke about the addition of another Halloween debutante, Darren Criss.

ICYMI: Darren Criss may check into the AHS: Hotel this Halloween

After Glee ended, Murphy was not ready to let go of Criss just yet. “I was sad to see him go. I love him. I was so proud to see what he did with Hedwig, and he had told me specifically, I don’t want to do light stuff anymore. I wanna do dark. So we were creating a role that had a lot of scenes with Kathy Bates, so I called up Darren and I said, ‘Do you wanna do a real f–ker who gets to tussle with Kathy,’ and he said yes.”

While we await Criss’ induction into the exclusive Ryan Murphy club, a veteran member of Murphy’s clique may take a bit of hard work to get back to the soundstage.

Jessica Lange may not be returning for Hotel, but contrary to the actress saying she wanted a break many, many months ago, Murphy is convinced he can win her over to his side once more. Aside from writing an amazing role that Lange cannot resist, Murphy sweetened the deal by presenting her with the rights to her favorite play.

“In season 2, Jessica Lange told me that her greatest regret at this point in her career is that she didn’t get to do Long Day’s Journey into Night on Broadway. Other people had the rights to that, so I spent a year, just as a present to her, trying to get those rights,” said Murphy.

The play will go up this spring and Murphy understood that her commitments to that project would prevent her from participating in Hotel. But what about beyond this year?

“I talk to Jessica all the time, and Jessica is one of those actors that if I went to her with the right part, I know she would say yes. She’s said that to me. She’s open to doing another [episode], two or three, or maybe if the part is big enough, a whole season. That’s how it starts with her,” said Murphy.

Fingers crossed that Murphy has a few more tricks up his writing sleeve!
