AHS: Hotel episode 2, “Chutes and Ladders,” does not intend on pulling back on the bloodshed. The Hotel Cortez’ housekeeping has its work cut out for this season.

As the Countess says, “All great ideas are deadly.” Anyone who walks into the Hotel Cortez with an idea is not likely to see it executed before they leave. Coming in to see the best of Los Angeles? Want to check in to draw a serial killer away from your family? In search of a quiet place to shoot up? Do not expect to get any VIP treatment in this hotel.

What we learned in the ‘AHS: Hotel’ premiere

The Hotel Cortez is more incestuous then we initially thought. Sally, a junkie resident of the hotel, initially brought in Donovan for a quick hit that turned south when he overdosed. Iris followed her son into the hotel and when she confronted Sally about killing him, Iris pushed her out the window, sending Sally to certain death. Or so we think. The Countess appears over Donovan’s body and, we assume, she brought him back to life by transmitting an ancient blood disease into his system.

Iris went to work for the Hotel Cortez in order to stay close to her son, but he is too caught up in his lust for blood and orgies with The Countess to pay her any mind. Another common thread, Room 64, connects the present to the very beginning of the Hotel Cortez.

Tonight the mystery continues to unfold as Detective Lowe learns more about the Hotel’s founder Mr. March. Meanwhile, a new plaything for The Countess arrives to the dissatisfaction of her current lover, Donovan.
