Are your bags packed for an extended stay at the AHS: Hotel? The fifth installment of the FX series premieres tonight!
The wait is nearly over! Tonight the doors of the Hotel Cortez will open and viewers will be ushered inside the latest installment of the AHS franchise. This season boasts some major star power as Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Matt Bomer and many, many others come together to tell a hotel horror story unlike any other.
Tonight’s AHS: Hotel episode 1, “Checking In,” keeps the basic groundwork set out by the previous seasons as an unlikely cluster of people find themselves grouped together as they search for some form of emotional connection with the freedom of the outside world just out of reach.
What to expect tonight
The Countess (Lady Gaga) is the current owner of the Hotel Cortez and mistress of the secrets housed within its walls. Her lovers, Donovan (Bomer), Ramona (Angela Bassett), and newcomer Tristan (Finn Wittrock) each play a different role to keep the Countess satisfied, but her lust for blood is one she must satisfy elsewhere. Just to be clear, no she is not a vampire.
The rest of the cast rounds out the Hotel’s staff and visitors. From addicts (Paulson), to front desk clerks (Bates), to bar maids (Denis O’Hare), the AHS: Hotel has a unique character for everyone. But don’t get too attached. You never know when they will die. (Why was Twisty killed off in episode 4?)
The center of the story may focus on Detective John Lowe’s personal connections to the Hotel Cortez and the serial killer that lured him there in the first place.
