A select few AHS: Hotel cast members made an appearance alongside Ryan Murphy to reveal the inside scoop on the upcoming season.

On site at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con the FX crew erected a mock hotel for fans to “check in.” Though little about AHS: Hotel was revealed inside the structure, the cast and Ryan Murphy dropped a few hints about what to expect at the Scream Queens, AHS joint panel.

In typical AHS fashion, everything was pretty hush-hush, but Matt Bomer, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett were all in attendance to offer a few (well, two) details about their characters.

Here are the character names we know so far:

Sarah Paulson: Hypodermic Sally
Evan Peters: Mr. March
Matt Bomer: Donovan
Katy Bates: Iris

The only other tidbit was that each of those characters will all be evil this season.

Who will survive ‘AHS’ this season?

“Who will live and who will die?” is a question that is on everyone’s mind. Sarah Paulson’s squeaky clean survival record in the AHS canon may not remain that way this year.

Paulson’s characters are notably some of the best in the anthology. That is in part due to the structure of Murphy’s series where new characters are created each season giving actors the opportunity to commit to shorter roles. Murphy spoke to this at the panel saying, “The thing about [Scream Queens and AHS] that I think is great for the actors is…why it’s so exciting for so many people is there’s a freedom to it.” He goes on to say, “If you love it, great, let’s do it again, but if you don’t, go off and do something else or go off for a year and come back.”

‘Please hold for Gaga’

Murphy is one to approach people with roles tailor made for them. He’s not going to take on just anyone who wants to be a part of the nightmarish genre. But one letter made him reconsider a request and it came with the Gaga seal.

Murphy describes the experience saying, “How it happened with Gaga is she wrote and said, ‘I love the show. Would you consider putting me on it?’ And I wrote back, ‘Yes.’ A week I didn’t hear anything and then a week later the best words in the English language are, ‘Please hold for Gaga.’”

The only suggestion Gaga gave to Murphy was to be an evil character. The rest of it was left up to Murphy to construct. Her schedule proved to be a bit of a hurdle to overcome, but they managed to wrangle all of her filming into one block of time.

The Haus of Gaga, her design team, has brought the world some of the craziest outfits of all time. Murphy teases, “Part of her role involves fashion. You want Lady Gaga to look a certain way so the designers have been coming out of the woodwork, making stuff for us and it’s been really, really thrilling.” The all-meat dress may just be a blip on the radar after this season!

Connections between the seasons

Only the names of a select few characters were revealed, so what about the rest of the cast? Murphy explains that the connections between the seasons have something to do with keeping most of the details under wraps for now. You can expect to see some familiar faces checking into the hotel as the season moves forward!

Fun tidbits:

•Kathy Bates on her favorite super hero: “The Armenian guy that did that incredible dance,” referring to Joe Manganiello in Magic Mike XXL.

•AHS will have a clothing line at Hot Topic! Somehow we do not think that Lana Winters style outfits are going to be the main focus.

•Murphy reminded the audience that Lady Gaga will not be singing this season.
