The AHS: Apocalypse crossover event creeps closer with the final trailer for the new season. This one features many, many familiar faces.

Update (September 5): The full length AHS: Apocalypse trailer is here.

So, that plane with Joan Collins looks like it was an escape plan! And of course, we have Billy Eichner doing what he does best, running in the streets yelling. Radiation contamination has rendered the outside world uninhabitable, save for the few souls who made it to designated outposts.

With echoes of the past merging together with the new faces of the Apocalypse, I’m already having trouble separating Sarah Paulsons. Overall, it looks like it is going to be a torturous ride. Take that as you will.

Original (September 4): “A glimpse of what tomorrow brings…” reads the tagline of the latest AHS: Apocalypse trailer. And that glimpse includes Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson in multiple roles, and Evan Peters on a plane with… Joan Collins?

Anything goes in a Ryan Murphy production and with all the hoopla that fans have already lived through — Bring it on.

Following the stream of other trailers — “Exhale,” “Shut Eye,” “Shockwave” — the theme of nuclear warfare run heavily throughout. Shots of desolated coastlines, burned out cars, air raid horns and panicked faces riddle the latest release.

The plot, though vague at the moment, is almost secondary to the incredible casting sheet for this installment. While every season is jam-packed with new characters and returning actors, Apocalypse has set up hoops for the cast to jump through several times over in different costumes. (I imagine scheduling the production of this season is on par with getting the gang back together for Mama Mia 2.)

Let’s hope that the callbacks and many wigs and accents of Sarah Paulson don’t become too much of a distraction, but rather a bid for someone’s future Emmy submission.

One bold prediction — Stevie Nicks saves the world.

Watch AHS: Apocalypse Wednesday, September 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX.
