Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 2, “0-8-4” airs tonight on ABC. What can we expect from episode 2 of the exciting new series?

After last week’s spectacular series premiere, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 2 airs tonight on ABC. The episode, enigmatically titled “0-8-4,” will feature Agent Coulson’s newly-formed team dealing with a threat code-named with that numerical sequence – though just what that threat will be, only Agent Ward seems to know.

In last week’s pilot episode, Agent Phil returned from the dead, or maybe not. Either way, he’s alive, kicking, and getting busy recruiting a special team to deal with un-classified threats in a post-Avengers world.

The combat element of Coulson’s team includes the taciturn and well-built specialist Grant Ward, who hates teamwork, and Agent Melinda May, dignified and coaxed back into the field with assurances that she will only be the pilot. (She is way more than just the pilot.) The brains division is comprised of Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons, engineering and bio-chem respectively, who are foreign, adorable, and apparently a matched set.

Finally, the newly recruited/kidnapped hacker Skye rounds off the team. Though she is a member of the mysterious group the Rising Tide, Agent Couslon is impressed enough by her skills with a laptop to invite her on to the team’s mobile command unit – the enormous airplane dubbed “the Bus.”

The official summary for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 2, “0-8-4” says:

Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents travel to Peru to investigate an object of unknown origin, codenamed 0-8-4. But when he runs into Comandante Camilla Reyes, more than just sparks fly at 30,000 feet.

In addition, this sneak peek indicates that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 2 will deal with Skye’s integration into the newborn team. It doesn’t look like her transition doesn’t go quite as smoothly as perhaps Agent Coulson hoped.

And speaking of things not going smoothly, these stills hint at a bit of high-altitude danger on board the Bus itself. (But of course, Agent Simmons is still smiling!)

Finally, ABC has been dropping a few heavy hints about a ‘post-credits’-esque cameo by a major player in the Marvel universe as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 2 ends.

Gee, that eye-patch looks really familiar. Wonder whose it could be?
