The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 premiere is just around the corner, and a new teaser, poster, and clip are driving us nuts with anticipation!

For the first time in the show’s run, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will open with a two-hour season premiere. The two-part episode, titled “Orientation, Parts 1 and 2,” will air in the series’ new time slot — 8:00 p.m. on Fridays — and looks to continue the series’ trend of radically reinventing itself every year.

Like, hardcore.

As the wild stinger of the season 4 finale suggested, Team Coulson has landed in an entirely new space (literally), and are left without answers to their many questions.

“Coulson and the team find themselves stranded on a mysterious ship in outer space,” ABC says of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 premiere, “and that’s just the beginning of the nightmare to come.”

So: Good times to be had by all?

The trailer for “Orientation” suggests that the answer is “Nah.” Opening on one extremely relieved dude who thinks that Coulson has “come to save us,” the trailer plunges fans into a world of monsters, dark corridors, Guardians of the Galaxy-esque technology, and — oh yeah, those are DEFINITELY Kree.

Still, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 has clearly not lost it’s wry, “Can you believe this sh*t?” tone. Coulson, May, Simmons, Mack, and Elena are all clearly just as bewildered about their new circumstances as the audience is, and that means that quips and jokes are flying as fast as… well, a spaceship.

But the dangers of unknown space are profoundly evident. Fitz is nowhere to be seen, new characters have arrived with uncertain loyalties, and a new clip from “Orientation” fleshes out an already-memorable scene from the trailer.

Yes, folks. Our heroes are being chased by a murderous space dog. Let that sink in for just a second.

Okay, second’s over. Adding another touch to the budding picture of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 premiere is the season’s new poster, portraying the team arrayed amidst stars, celestial light, and what looks like an asteroid field.

Coulson dominates the image, but is arranged tellingly close to Daisy and May. Simmons faces away from a scruffy Fitz, while the romantically involved Mack and Elena stand on opposite sides of the poster.

What does it all mean? Hard to say, of course. But it looks pretty likely that “Orientation” will plunge both Team Coulson and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans into a realm unlike any they have experienced before.

The two-hour Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 premiere, “Orientation,” airs on Friday, Dec. 1 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
