Ghost Rider is an all-new kind of blazing hot in a new promotional image from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4.

The new image was revealed today on Yahoo and displays a very different side of the doe-eyed Robbie Reyes. Actor Gabriel Luna’s face has been rather violently replaced with the burning skull of Ghost Rider, grinning evilly and animated by gouts of flame.

Still familiar, of course, are Robbie’s car, distinctive leather jacket, and racing gloves.

Though we don’t know all that much about Robbie Reyes yet, it does seem like the young Latino street racer isn’t quite as, shall we say, vindictive as the Spirit of Vengeance. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has long loved to play with contrasts, and it will be interesting to see how the show balances Robbie’s life with the vicious instincts of Ghost Rider.

Yahoo reports that actress Chloe Bennett, who plays Daisy, says that fans should expect “massive themes” of justice and retribution to be “threaded throughout our season.” We can’t help but think that these themes will be relevant to Daisy as well, who seems to have become her own judge and jury since the tragic events of the season 3 finale.

A recent promo for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premiere, titled “The Ghost,” hinted at ominous (and very fiery) events to come when the series returns in its new 10:00 p.m. timeslot.

Meanwhile, the synopsis for “The Ghost” focuses more on the changes that have raked through Coulson, May, Fitz, Simmons, and the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. team.

“In light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimatized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows,” ABC says.

“Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack, and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. Agent May is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz and Simmons have taken a big step forward in their relationship.”

It looks like alchemy of all kinds will be at work when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premieres next week. But change always comes with a cost, especially where this show is concerned.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premiere, “The Ghost,” airs Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10:00 p.m on ABC.
