Parminder Nagra joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 in a recurring role, adding anti-Inhumam politics to the season’s pressures.

As IGN revealed today, Nagra will play an influential politician who makes no secret of her dislike of Inhumans. The character will debut in the third episode of season 4, presumably adding an extra dimension to the tensions embroiling our fearless agents.

Parminder Nagra joins an intriguing lineup of antagonists arranging against Coulson’s crew in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4. As announced to exciting fanfare at San Diego Comic-Con, Gabriel Luna will add fire to the season as Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider.

Additionally, Jason O’Mara will shake up S.H.I.E.L.D. as the new Director, and Lilli Birdsell as a “haunting” character named Lucy.

Between the devastation wrought by Hive at the end of last season, the recent “Quake-ification” of Daisy Johnson, and the arrival of the terrifying Ghost Rider, it’s no surprise that Inhumans will face formal resistance from government figures. We can only wonder if Parminder Nagra’s character will prove more tenacious than Talbot, Malick, and the World Security Council.

Parminder Nagra is known for her starring role in 2002’s Bend It Like Beckham, and recently appeared on The Blacklist and NCIS: Los Angeles. She also starred on ER for six years as Dr. Neela Rasgotra.

Nagra’s fellow ER alum Ming-Na took the opportunity to welcome the actress to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Twitter:

The recently-released synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 hints at danger facing Daisy, and fractures threatening to split the team. We can’t help but hope that the next casting announcement reveals a new (and permanent) S.H.I.E.L.D. therapist.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
