A change in place, unpredictable new enemies, and major secrets flavor the synopses for Agent Carter season 2 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3.

The news of both series’ renewals arrived last week, and was received with enormous excitement by fans and critics alike. The synopses will only heighten the excitement – even with changes teased to come.

As hinted by co-showrunner Tara Butters, Agent Carter season 2 will take Peggy Carter to a new location – Los Angeles.

“Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II,” ABC announces, “Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet.” But as ever with Agent Carter, life can never be all business.

“Even as she discovers new friends, a new home — and perhaps even a new love,” ABC says, “she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.”

Interestingly, the cast list for Agent Carter season 2 consists solely of Hayley Atwell. This suggests that fan-favorites Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy,) Angie (Lindsey Fonesca) and Agent Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) may not play a major role in Peggy’s next adventure – if they appear at all.

Still, even with a shift to Los Angeles, we hope that at least Angie and Jarvis can come along. Hayley Atwell could, of course, carry the whole of Agent Carter season 2 by herself – but we would dearly miss her charming and hilarious support system.

The network’s details on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 are more vague – understandable, as the season 2 finale airs tonight. Still, a few eerie hints are dropped about what to expect next year.

In a “dynamic, action-packed third season,” ABC says, “Director Phil Coulson embarks on a deadly new secret mission to protect the world from new threats in the wake of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s wars with Hydra and a rogue faction of Inhumans.”

Now that is quite interesting; tonight’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 finale focuses on a blossoming war with the Inhumans. Does the phrase “rogue faction” imply that peace is eventually established? Or that the dangers simply amplify in the aftermath of tonight’s battle?

Whatever happens, fans will be heartened to see that the main cast list for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 has remained unchanged. Even Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) will return, as tentative plans for their spinoff series have been canned.

The two-hour Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 finale, “S.O.S.,” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
