The first teaser for the mid-season premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 aired last night – and left us trembling.

The promo, which aired during last night’s episode of Agent Carter, makes it very clear that Skye will not enjoy a smooth transition into earthquake-causing Inhuman-hood.

In fact, you might even say that things will be… rocky.

(Sorry, we use humor to diffuse our distress over the pain of fictional characters.)

While the promo for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. mid-season premiere, titled “Aftershocks,” isn’t brimming with new footage, there certainly is what to unpack. Skye is in quarantine, May is badassing like a badass, Raina has talons, and Coulson realizes that something new is afoot.

“We’re dealing with forces we don’t understand,” he says. Though to be fair, that’s not exactly new for the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The most interesting part of the promo comes toward the end of the tantalizing clip. A tearful Fitz watches in horror as Skye freaks out, causing some kind of crazy explosion.

“There is something very wrong with me,” she whispers, hugging Fitz in desperation.

(Sidebar: Where is Simmons??)

However brief, the preview makes it very clear that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will return with a whole new brand of drama. Between the loss of resident ray-of-sunshine Trip, the lasting (and dangerous) implications of Skye’s transformation, and Bobbi Morse’s mysterious agenda, Team Coulson will be fighting threats from within and without – but this time, they’ve got superpowers.

Speaking of threats (and possibly of superpowers) we can’t help but wonder how Edward James Olmos’s unspeakably secretive character will play into this madness. It has not been confirmed whether or not Olmos’s “Robert Gonzales” will be connected to the burgeoning Inhumans storyline. But given the actor’s cryptic clues on the subject, we’re pretty darn sure that there is something supernatural about this guy.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 11, “Aftershocks,” will air on Tuesday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
