Australian actor Luke Mitchell will join the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a role that is literally Inhuman.

Mitchell will play Lincoln, a recurring character debuting when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 returns from its winter hiatus. Described as a “charismatic” young man with Inhuman abilities, Lincoln will reportedly have an important role to play in Skye’s storyline.

“The charming energy Luke brings to the role will make him a character to watch as we continue our season,” says executive producer Jeph Loeb.

Skye, of course, will be struggling to control her own infant Inhuman abilities when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns. Revealed to be Daisy Johnson — the Inhuman known in Marvel comics as “Quake” — in the winter finale, Skye developed the ability to create massive earthquakes after her exposure to the Diviner’s Terrigen Mists.

Mitchell’s character (whose own powers remain a mystery) will reportedly help Skye understand “the true extent of her transformation.” This help may or may not be a good thing, however; the first preview for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 made it clear that Skye has no illusions about the strength of her terrifying Inhuman skills.

(Just wait until someone tries to call her “Quake.”)

Luke Mitchell is best known to American viewers for his role in The Tomorrow People, which aired last year on the CW. Lincoln is the first confirmed Inhuman to be added to the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though it seems very likely that Edward James Olmos’ mysterious character also has abilities inherited from Kree experimentation.

Of the existing cast, Ruth Negga’s Raina has also been established as an Inhuman. (Which makes sense, since she’s been bragging about it since season 1.) It is unclear whether or not Raina, who transformed along with Skye, possesses abilities as dangerous as Daisy Johnson’s.

But since she appears to have “evolved” into a taloned creature with spines all over her body, we’re definitely not counting the once-Girl-in-Flower-Dress out in the power games.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 11, “Aftershocks,” airs on Tuesday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
