The forces of law and order may be facing a challenge as actress Lucy Lawless joins the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.

Lucy Lawless is no stranger to taking on geek-friendly roles, but she has definitely leveled up her cred with her next project. TVGuide reports that the actress will become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this fall, as she joins the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.

In accordance with Marvel’s secrecy-heavy procedures, no details have been revealed as to the identity of Lawless’s character. The possibilities are practically infinite – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has demonstrated their willingness to incorporate established characters from the comics, as well as invent new, live-action additions. But no matter who Lawless turns out to portray, it’s exciting to see the familiar face return to the small screen.

Lawless is perhaps best known for her starring role on the cult ’90s television show, Xena: Warrior Princess. The New Zealand-born actress also made a vivid impression on the rebooted Battlestar Galactica series, and several incarnations of Starz’s Spartacus.

The news of Lawless’s casting is the first story-related information that has been released regarding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2. But the addition of Lawless is a promising start – and more information is certainly just around the corner.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, with their main event a set to be a panel on Friday. The show’s cast is all set to attend, along with showrunners Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon, and several members of the new Marvel series Agent Carter.
