As ABC decides the fate of Agent Carter, the network is developing an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff.

Entertainment Weekly reports S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell (who has developed shows like Angel, The X-Files) and show writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0) are working on the spinoff.

Sadly, there’s no word on who the S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff focuses on, but “story elements that are still to come on S.H.I.E.L.D. this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series,” according to EW. In other words, we should know by the end of the season what the network is planning for the spinoff.

Also notable in EW’s report is an update on the future of Agent Carter — it supposedly has a “roughly 60 percent chance of returning for a second season.”

For now, we’re left to speculate over who the S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff could focus on. Where do you think the show could be heading?

In terms of why this spinoff is happening, look no further than the success over at The CW: They spun The Flash out of Arrow, and they’re now working on a Flash/Arrow crossover spinoff.

What ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ spinoff would you like to see?

Or is the show best left as is? Creating a spinoff means we may lose a few characters in the main show, meaning that the problems that some viewers already have with the series probably won’t be fixed by splitting up the gang.

Alliteratively, ABC may introduce new characters later this season who’ll then move to the spinoff.
