The temperature rises as Coulson and May go undercover in the preview and stills for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 4.

Director Coulson and Agent May will break out their best moves, as they try to break into answers on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 4. The episode, titled “Face My Enemy,” looks like it will take a slightly lighter tone than the first three episodes of the drama-heavy season. Still, the preview and still photos promise plenty of danger to go along with the dancing.

The preview for “Face My Enemy” teases an apparently glamorous date between our favorite non-couple. But though Melinda May looks especially ravishing in sparkles, it seems that she and Coulson are not just out for a relaxing night on the town.

The preview indicates that the question of Coulson’s carved symbols will resurface in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 4, as the Director and May track a painting which appears to hold a clue to the mystery. In addition, the home team will deal with their own dangerous environs, as the battered Bus threatens to end in fire.

The still photos from “Face My Enemy” focus mostly on Phil and Melinda’s cover as dashing dancers… and we sort of have to ship it. But two familiar enemies are also featured in the images, promising that art will not be the exclusive focus of Phillinda’s evening.

The stills not only include Brigadier Jerk General Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) but also Maya Stojan in the role of Agent 33. The mysterious woman first appeared in last week’s episode, and appears to have been brainwashed by HYDRA – so what does her presence at this party imply?

The synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 4 is mum on the subject, but shifts our suspicion to someone completely unexpected.

“While on a mission to learn more about the secrets of the mysterious writing,” ABC says, “Coulson finds himself attacked by the only person he can trust: Agent Melinda May. Meanwhile, the rest of the team is trapped in an explosive situation, and it’s up to Fitz to save them – but is he up to it?”

Oh, dear; let’s hope an undercover date doesn’t turn into a literal danse macabre.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 4, “Face My Enemy,” will air on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
