The episode, titled “Ragtag,” promises to finally reveal the genesis of the HYDRA agent’s feverish loyalty to John Garrett – as well as putting several beloved characters directly in harm’s way.

In the last episode before the epic season finale, Ward’s betrayal and HYDRA’s shocking secrets are revealed as Coulson’s team goes undercover on a mission that leaves no one unscathed.
Not that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been lacking for drama lately. On last week’s gripping episode, Coulson, FitzSimmons, and Trip grappled with Ward’s betrayal from a distance, while fleeing from Providence base with Maria Hill. As Ward’s unofficial captive, Skye bitterly confronted the former agent and made it clear that forgiveness was not an option.
Coulson managed to rescue both Skye and Lola, but not before Skye was manipulated into unlocking the hard drive stocked with S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets. And one more secret was revealed, as Agent May dug up the information that Coulson himself was the architect of the ever-mysterious Project TAHITI.
It was seriously intense, yo.
The preview for “Ragtag” makes it pretty clear that nobody is going to be chilling out tonight.
Simmons screaming, Fitz tearfully begging for mercy, Ward in a dork-tastic red cap… yeah, it’s gonna be totally relaxing.
The sneak peeks released from “Ragtag” do suggest a certain amount of levity in the episode, though. The opening sequence presents a younger Garrett still possessed of his evil sense of humor, while a clip from later on shows Coulson and May making a valiant attempt at undercover ops… and glasses.

The stills hold no clue as to what FitzSimmons will endure in “Ragtag,” but hey, we’re sure that everything will be absolutely fine.
