Former agent and perpetual badass Maria Hill will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 20 airs tonight. The episode, titled “Nothing Personal,” will see actress Cobie Smulders reprise the role she originated in The Avengers as the fallout from Captain America: The Winter Soldier continues to echo through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The official synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 20 focuses on the team’s desperate straits, and Maria Hill’s return.
Just when there’s no one left to trust, Agent Maria Hill — from Marvel’s The Avengers and Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Solider — returns to team up with Coulson as S.H.I.E.L.D. is being destroyed around them.
Last week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Coulson went to Portland to save his true love Audrey from the recently Fridge-freed baddie, Blackout. Meanwhile, Agent May gave up on trying to reconnect with Coulson, and left the team to enjoy some tense bonding time with her mom.
At the same time, Ward slipped back under cover at the Providence base, but Skye caught on to his Hydra loyalties when he murdered Agent Koenig. Now Ward has whisked her away on the Bus, en route to the coordinates that will unlock Skye’s hard drive full of S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets.
So, you know, things could be better.
Alas, the preview for “Nothing Personal” suggests that “better” is still a long way off.
The preview makes it clear that Deathlok (J. August Richards) is back, and closely involved with Skye’s attempts to escape from Ward. An earlier sneak peek also offers a look at Adrian Pasdar returning as Colonel Talbot, and the opening sequence of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 20 obliges our desperate longing for more Maria Hill quite beautifully.
