The new preview and synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 14, welcomes Bill Paxton on board the Bus.

Last week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended with newly-minted semi-agent Skye fighting for her life after being shot by series baddie Ian Quinn. Though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 14, will not air until March (thank the Olympics) the preview and summary make it clear that the episode will only continue to ramp up the tension.

The episode, titled “Tahiti,” will follow Agent Coulson’s attempt to save Skye’s life – and include the introduction of Bill Paxton in the role of rough-and-tumble Agent John Garrett. “Tahiti,” of course, is a reference to the blissful recovery scenario with which Coulson was programmed, in order to replace the painful memories of his revitalization. The name has become emblematic of the mistrust which Coulson now harbors for S.H.I.E.L.D.

The official synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 14, released on Marvel.com, hints at that mistrust, and adds an interesting piece of information about Garrett’s character.

Coulson goes on the attack to save Skye–enlisting the aid of Ward’s former S.O. John Garrett (Bill Paxton)–and uncovers shocking truths about his own life and S.H.I.E.L.D.

When Paxton’s casting was announced last month, his character’s past as a “rough-and-tumble cohort of Agent Coulson” was emphasized. It’s interesting to learn that Garrett also served as Ward’s supervising officer, whom the younger agent regards with extreme respect.

A still shot from “Tahiti” offers a glimpse of Garrett working alongside Agents Ward and May.

And the preview for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 14 reveals the extent of Coulson’s concern for Skye – perhaps the reason he calls in Agent Garrett – and hints at darker discoveries ahead about S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 14, “Tahiti,” will air on Tuesday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
