J. August Richards’ character Mike Peterson will be unveiled as Marvel’s Deathlok in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13.
The character of Mike Peterson will fill a long-standing niche in the Marvel Universe, the studio announced today. The character, played by J. August Richards, will take on the mantle of Deathlok in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13, “T.R.A.C.K.S.” The episode will air on Feb. 4.
The character of Deathlok has had several incarnations in the Marvel Comics Universe since he was first introduced forty years ago. On Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Deathlok’s origin story has unfolded tragically; after being treated with the Extremis virus by Centipede, Mike Peterson was grievously wounded in an explosion while attempting to save Agent Coulson from the same shadowy organization. Between the strength he has gained from Extremis, his bionic eye, and a new cybernetic leg, Mike Peterson has become a cyborg against his will. These new mechanical powers will transform him into Deathlok, but will Peterson be able to retain his humanity in spite of his foreign form?
It was also revealed at the Television Critics Association that Bill Paxton’s new character of Joh Garrett will be connected to Deathlok’s origins. The character also appears to be making his debut in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13.

Between the return of Peterson, the debut of Garret, and that unsettling business about a train, “T.R.A.C.K.S.” appears to be a pretty packed episode. On top of everything else, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13 will also include a cameo from Marvel’s man-of-the-century, Stan Lee.
More information was also offered about an upcoming episode guest-starring Thor‘s Jaimie Alexander in the role of Lady Sif.

Excited as we are to see Lady Sif return to Midgard, thankfully she will not be appearing in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13. The official synopsis for “T.R.A.C.K.S.” somewhat-ominously says:
Hot on the trail of the Clairvoyant, Coulson and his team board a mystery train that seems to be headed for certain death.
It definitely looks like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 13 will end the show’s three-week hiatus with at least one bang – and probably more.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
