Heroes‘ Adrian Pasdar will step back into the comic book frame as a jerky colonel on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel.com announced recently that actor Adrian Pasdar will play Colonel Glenn Talbot in at least one upcoming episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Pasdar is no stranger to comic books and their adaptations. He is well-known for his portrayal of the intermittently nasty Nathan Petrelli on NBC’s Heroes, and provides the voice of Iron Man in several of Marvel’s animated television shows.

Pasdar’s character, the iron-willed Colonel Glenn Talbot, will be familiar to fans of comic story lines involving the Hulk. Talbot works closely with the Hulk’s major nemesis General Ross, and is devoted to hunting down the green rage monster with a heart of gold. Pasdar describes Talbot as “the sanctimonious jerk… his way’s the only way!” and the character will likely act as an antagonist for Agent Coulson’s team.

According to the actor, he was offered the role of Talbot by close friend Jeph Loeb, an executive producer on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In a rather charming twist, Pasdar says that his son, a enthusiastic comic book fan, inspired his research for the role.

“[I was] with my nine-year old in Times Square… when I got a call from Jeph,” Pasdar says. “As soon as I hung up, my little boy Beckett said, ‘What’s the job, Dad? What’s the job?’ and I said, ‘Well, do you know Colonel Talbot?’ and he said, ‘Glenn Talbot? Yeah, everybody does.’ I said, ‘Well, they asked me to play him.'”

Hearing this, Pasdar’s son immediately directed him to the source of all comic book knowledge. “‘We gotta go to Midtown Comics right away because you know the guy on the second floor with the beard?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ ‘We’ve gotta find him and ask him what he thinks and his questions. He’ll help you out.'”

Among the information Pasdar gleaned was about Talbot’s distinctive mustache, which caused some consternation in hair and makeup.

“We spent a long time on that, a couple of days,” Pasdar says. “That was probably a thorn in the side to make-up and hair people. I had a week to prepare and as macho as I like to think I am, there’s just no way I can grow that mustache in a week, so we had to cut up a $400 dollar mustache and try it on knowing that it might fail.”

But as the first image released of Colonel Talbot reveals, it looks like that ‘stache can bear the weight of Pasdar’s performance.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return with new episodes in April on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
