It was Agent Carter‘s time to shine at the Marvel television panel at San Diego Comic-Con today.

The Marvel Television Presents panel was held today at San Diego Comic-Con. In typical Marvel fashion, details of the panel were decidedly vague – all we were told was to expect Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter news.

Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell was present at the panel, which was moderated by Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb. The series is yet to start filming, so there was (unfortunately) no new footage to see, but we still got the scoop on Marvel’s newest TV series.

1. ‘Agent Carter’ will parallel ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Agent Carter has not yet started filming, and so the short trailer they showed was comprised of recycled footage. Luckily, the voiceover from Hayley Atwell made clear that Agent Carter would parallel the themes introduced in Captain America 2 and the last few episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: “The world is changing, and if history has taught us anything, it’s that freedom is not free.”

2. Howard Stark will be a key player

Two newspaper headlines shown in the short trailer stood out to us: “Stark Industries Under Investigation” and “Howard Stark – Traitor?” However, that does not confirm an appearance in the series by Dominic Cooper, who played Stark in Captain America, although early reports have said he will be a recurring character. As Jeph Loeb said, “that would be fantastic if that could happen,” but either way, Stark’s storyline will be critical to Peggy Carter’s.

3. Familiar directors will be returning

The Agent Carter pilot will be directed by Louis D’Esposito, who directed the Agent Carter one-shot. Agent Carter episode 2 and episode 3 will be directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Finally, as long as his schedule can accommodate it, episode 4 will be directed by Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston.

4. It won’t be all action

Although Peggy will be busy as a spy and an agent, star Hayley Atwell was quick to explain that Agent Carter will also focus on the impact that Peggy’s work will have on her, both emotionally and psychologically.

5. Peggy won’t be the only woman

Although much of the drama of the Agent Carter one-shot came from the tension of Peggy being the only woman in a man’s world, Executive Producer Michele Fazekas assured us that Peggy won’t be alone, saying, “There are other women in that world too that are just as powerful, both good and bad.”

Agent Carter will premiere in January 2015 during the mid-season break of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.
