Marvel debuted a juicy scene from Agent Carter tonight — and it’s basically everything we’ve ever wanted.

The first extended sneak peek of ABC’s upcoming miniseries Agent Carter aired tonight, during Marvel’s 75th anniversary special. The new scene focuses on stars Hayley Atwell and Dominic Cooper, reprising the roles of Agent Peggy Carter and Howard Stark, and offers our first look at James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis.

Oh yes, and the scene also vividly reminds us why we fell in love with Atwell and Cooper in Captain America — and makes us desperately thirsty for more.

The sneak peek sees Peggy say a wry dockside farewell to Stark. Stark appears to be fleeing the country, possibly off to track down inventions that have wound up in very wrong hands. Peggy, meanwhile, is charged with hunting down one of Stark’s many dangerous — and of course, effective — formulas.

Stark leaves Peggy with his butler, Edwin Jarvis — who is decidedly (and deliciously) human. Though both Jarvis and Peggy are both proper British gentlepeople, it definitely seems like the two will become an odd couple as the demands of dangerous postwar espionage collide with Jarvis’s “in-bed-by-nine” attitude.

This makes us more excited than we can possibly express.

And if the scene was a little dialogue-heavy for some fans, the clip was capped with an appreciably brutal fight scene between Peggy and an unknown assailant. The man seems to have forgotten any TV-land lessons about not hitting women — but Peggy, naturally, gives as good as she gets.

The first brief teaser for Agent Carter aired during last week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the series’ new synopsis fills us in on the details of the dangers facing our dauntless Agent Carter.

Agent Carter will air in Jan. 2015 on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
