Agent Carter has cast Bridget Regan and Costa Ronan – and one character’s name may seem familiar to Marvel fans.
Two new faces have joined the cast of ABC’s upcoming miniseries, Agent Carter. Russian actor Costa Ronin will reportedly play the inventor Anton Vanko, while Bridget Regan (White Collar) will play Peggy’s new neighbor, Dottie.
Marvel fans may recognize the name of Ronin’s character from a brief appearance in Iron Man 2. The main antagonist in that film is Ivan Vanko (a.k.a. Whiplash) who sets out to punish Tony Stark for Howard Stark’s mistreatment of Vanko Sr.
The inclusion of Anton Vanko on Agent Carter suggests that the series may clarify exactly what happened between the two scientists – and opens the door for other mysteries of Howard Stark’s past to be elucidated.
Speaking of opening doors, Agent Carter has added a dash of neighborly charm in Bridget Regan’s character, Dottie. Described as a fresh-faced Idahoan new to New York, Dottie is promised to “have a huge impact on Peggy’s life.”
According to Jeph Loeb, Regan “brings the nuance and complexity of Dottie to life in a way that leaves no doubt as to her importance to Peggy.”
This has been a busy week for news of Agent Carter. Following a brief teaser trailer last week, a juicy scene starring Hayley Atwell as Peggy, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, and James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis was released on Sunday. The clip laid out two of Peggy’s most crucial relationships – one established, and one clearly set to blossom over the course of Agent Carter – but as the casting implies, Peggy certainly has many more characters to bond with (or… destroy utterly…) over the course of the series’ eight episodes.
Agent Carter also stars Shea Whigham as Scientific Strategic Reserve Chief Roger Dooley. Enver Gjokaj will play Agent Daniel Sousa, Chad Michael Murray will play Agent Jack Thompson, and Lindsey Fonesca will appear as Peggy’s new friend Angie Martinelli.
Agent Carter will premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
