We’ve got a few hints for what’s to come in Agent Carter 2×04, including brand-new information about Peggy and a pivotal revelation.
Tuesday night’s episode is titled “Smoke and Mirrors.” Appropriately, Agent Carter 2×04 continues to lay its characters’ cards on the table — at least for the audience. The characters scramble to keep up, with ultimately drastic results.
All about the ladies
Peggy Carter and Whitney Frost don’t share any scenes in Agent Carter 2×04, but they work together nonetheless as the episode’s twin pillars. In their separate ways, both the agent and the actress (/scientist) make dangerous decisions and take incredible risks. Driven by their own intelligence and skill to very different ends, Peggy and Whitney ultimately find themselves opponents at a chessboard already primed for sacrifice.

Ever wonder who Margaret Carter was before the Steve Rodgers days? Look no further than “Smoke and Mirrors,” which offers an unprecedented look into Peggy’s personal history. We won’t divulge anything here, but suffice to say that Peggy’s journey to becoming Agent Carter has been a lot longer than any of us knew.
And Whitney Frost (a.k.a. Agnes Cully) receives the same illuminating treatment. While Whitney’s history is not as personal as Peggy’s, it still provides an important context for this diminutive villain — and introduces themes that resonate just as deeply with Peggy as they do with her nemesis.
Who’s the boss around here?
Agent Carter 2×04 also advances the issue of just who is really in charge of the various systems at work. Peggy makes a risky play, the S.S.R. finds its autonomy threatened, and Whitney Frost spices things up in her marriage — and not in that kind of way.
It’s still too early to tell what the fallout of these changes will be. But the uncertainty is driven by a kind of momentum that will hopefully carry Agent Carter season 2 to some seriously gripping developments.
