These five funny, adult Christmas movies will keep you laughing through whatever craziness the holidays bring.

For many, the holidays are often filled with nostalgia. Spending time and traditions with family and old friends, listening to old music, and of course, watching old movies.

We find all of our old favorites from Home to Alone, to Frosty, to Elf, and consume them just like when we were kids.

That being said, amidst all of the family fun and holiday magic, sometimes you just want to be reminded that you’re actually an adult (or are at least trying your hardest to be one). When you want to step back from the childhood nostalgia but still remain rooted in the holiday spirit, there are adult Christmas movies!

It seems like one of these NSFW holiday movies comes out every year, but honestly, most of them aren’t great. However, sometimes they strike exactly the right balance of raunchy and festive, and a whole new type of holiday magic is born.

Here are five adult Christmas movies that will make you laugh this holiday season. Please exercise caution before watching these with your family around the Christmas tree. You’ve been warned!

‘The Night Before’

The Night Before follows three best friends, played by Anthony Mackie, Seth Rogen, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt on their final annual Christmas Eve night of debauchery. The tradition began when Gordon-Levitt’s character’s parents died near Christmas, and will be ending due to the family and career advancements of Mackie and Rogen’s characters.

Alcohol, drugs, karaoke, and Rockefeller Center have always been a part of the evening, but their real goal has always been to attend the mysterious “Nutcracker Ball.” When they actually score tickets, the stakes are higher than ever, and the potential for mishaps and humor is endless.

Of all the amazing, hilarious, and ridiculous movies that Seth Rogen has made in this decade, I think The Night Before represents his best work. As an expectant father given “every drug” by his wife on his last big night out, his facial expressions alone will make you cry-laugh.

Beneath all the jokes, The Night Before has a strong core message of friendship and love which comes through in every scene. Laughter and the true spirit of Christmas? What else could you ask for!

‘A Bad Mom’s Christmas’

For anyone travelling home for the holidays this year, A Bad Mom’s Christmas might just help you survive it. We love our moms, but being back under the same roof with them, especially at a time like Christmas, can be tricky to navigate.

In A Bad Mom’s Christmas, Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn deliver the same funny antics as the original movie, but now their moms are around to add to the fun. And it’s Christmas!

Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines are amazing additions to the cast as the trio’s mothers. The movie will make you laugh and get you in the family Christmas spirit, and it also just might make you appreciate all your mom does at this time of year while teaching you how to assert yourself for a better Christmas for everyone.

‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’

This one definitely isn’t a secret. Almost everyone has seen National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. However, if you haven’t watched it as an adult, I encourage you to revisit it.

The movie is only rated PG-13, and it’s about a family Christmas gathering, so it appears to be more family friendly than it really is. All of the profanity could have told you that. In reality, this is one of the more risqué adult Christmas movies out there, and there’s so much more in it for adults than children.

‘Anna and the Apocalypse’

Anna and the Apocalypse is a Christmas movie in the way that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. There’s a lot of Christmas sweaters and decor, but there’s also a lot of killing.

I’ll give Die Hard an honorable mention as a Christmas movie because of the unexpected bromance between John and Al, but Anna gets extra points because the story is amazing and…it’s a musical!

If you like Christmas, High School Musical, and British cinema, Anna and the Apocalypse will be the movie for you. It follows a group of high school students making plans for the future when the zombie apocalypse happens. And fast.

While Anna and the Apocalypse definitely isn’t as funny as the other movies on this list, if you can get into the camp of it, you’ll be laughing just as hard through the joy, music and zombie-killing madness of it all.

‘A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas’

The same Harold and Kumar that you’ve always known and loved, but with a high stakes Christmas quest. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas follows the iconic duo as they go to extreme lengths to secure the perfect tree for Harold’s father-in-law.

It’s funny, it’s raunchy, it’s drug-infused, and it’s packed to the brim with holiday spirit. Definitely try this adult Christmas movie out if you’re a fan of very NSFW buddy comedies.
