The NFL tried to woo Adele into being the star of next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, but the singer said no.

Update (August 14): Adele has confirmed that the Super Bowl approached her to helm the 2017 Halftime Show, but she turned them down: “First of all, I’d like to tell you I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she said at her concert Saturday night. “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I don’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no.” Watch below (the video is funny for multiple reasons, including a surprise Facetime call):

Original story (August 10): The Sun — admittedly, not the best place to go looking for factual information — says that the NFL is hellbent on getting her booked following the success of her latest album, 25.

Adding to her appeal, she’s currently on a tour through the United States where she’s pulling in huge audiences (She’s got 8 nights sold out at Los Angeles’ massive Staples Center).

Said a source to The Sun, “There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organizers are doing absolutely everything they can to persuade her to sign up. She’s sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers.

Her fans — of which there are millions — may be the most important reason to book Adele for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. She’s one of very few singers who appeal to audiences of all ages, meaning she could easily deliver the 2017 Super Bowl a nice viewership boost.

The 2016 Super Bowl starred Coldplay with Beyonce and Bruno Mars, and Bey used the opportunity to announce her Formation World Tour.

Adele is currently in Los Angeles for her aforementioned Staples Center shows. Her North American tour runs through November.
