Bad news for those of us who love Adele but also love living in a modern world: 25 will not be available on streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.

The New York Times has three sources who’ve confirmed that there are no plans to release Adele’s latest studio album — due for release Friday, November 20 — on any streaming services.

Like fellow streaming critic Taylor Swift, Adele was reportedly “personally involved” with keeping her latest album from hitting Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.

This means that you’ll have to pay for the album outright through places like iTunes, Amazon, or by leaving your house and picking up a physical item called a “Compact Disc.” This disc, sometimes referred to as a “CD,” goes in a thing called a “CD player.” It’s that thin gap about 4 inches wide in your car.

Artists like Taylor Swift and Adele are so popular that they don’t need to release their music everywhere. People love their music so much that they’ll pay for a full album like this is 2004.

Not all hope is lost. Beyoncé was also against releasing her latest studio album on streaming sites, but she ended up releasing it on Spotify a year after the surprise release.

Spotify, Apple Music, etc. have gained traction in recent years as consumers have fallen in love with the newest way to listen to music. For $10/month, said services can give you instant access to a huge catalogue of music including most major artists. It’s a much better deal than paying $10 per album.

Adele and Taylor Swift are averse to these platforms because of their low payouts to artists. The question is, who will blink first: Major artists or the streaming apps?
