Adelaide Kane, who will be playing Cora in the upcoming season 3 of Teen Wolf, has landed the lead role in the new CW drama Reign, which chronicles the life of Mary Queen of Scots.

The reveal comes from Deadline, in which they report it will be about the time when Mary, “arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting.” They go on to say that the show will detail, “the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue.”

Brad Silberling will direct the pilot, and a script has been written by Stephanie Sengupta and Laurie McCarthy, their first joint project despite having been friends for quite some time.

From a report late last year, Deadline describes the show as, “a fantastical reimagining of the teenage Mary Queen of Scots.” They go on to say it’s like, “Game of Thrones meets Marie Antoinette — if Marie Antoinette had a girl posse and was coming of age as a warrior queen.”

Sounds interesting, especially since the CW has a good track record with teen and young adult shows like The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, among others.

So what does this mean for her time on Teen Wolf? She’s got a major recurring role as Cora, the mysterious woman who has a secret tie to the werewolves. This doesn’t, however, mean that she’s a series regular or that she’ll even make it out of season 3. With the promise of a higher death toll this year, there’s a good chance that Cora might be killed at some point during this season. On the bright side, maybe she just decides to leave Beacon Hills, mission accomplished. One can hope, right?

Either way, we’re excited for Ms. Kane, and wish her the best of luck both on Teen Wolf and with her new lead role in Reign.
