Netflix has announced that comedian and actor Adam Sandler will produce and star in four original movies exclusively for the streaming site.

Netflix will produce the films with Sandler’s production company Happy Madison Productions. They will premiere on Netflix worldwide.

Said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos in a press release, “People love Adam’s films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages — everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line — not just in the U.S. but all over the world.”

Added Sandler, who seemingly loves to use bad jokes and punctuation marks in press releases, “When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only…Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks. Let the streaming begin!!!!”

The news comes on the heels of Netflix and The Weinstein Company announcing earlier this week that the streaming site and IMAX theaters will be the exclusive home to a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel in August 2015.

Following that announcement, several movie theater chains including Regal and AMC voiced their disapproval of the deal because the film won’t be in theaters. To them, it may be the beginning of a trend where movies debut exclusively online.

They won’t like this news about Sandler, either.

A time frame for the release of Sandler’s Netflix-exclusive films was not shared today.

As many readers surely know, Netflix has been on a roll in recent years with several original television series and documentaries. The Crouching Tiger sequel and now the Sandler films will mark their foray into exclusive cinema.
