Adam Sandler was a staple on SNL in the ’90s but has never hosted the show — until now.

Today, SNL announced via social media that Adam Sandler will indeed be returning to host the late-night comedy show that launched him into superstardom. Sandler will host on May 4 alongside musical guest Shawn Mendes.

This will be Sandler’s first appearance as a billed host, and first appearance on the show since the 40th anniversary special in 2015. Since leaving the show in 1995, he has only made brief appearances here and there.

SNL has often seen alumni come back to host the popular late-night show. Tina Fey, Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon are notable for their multiple returns as hosts.

Sandler has since rocketed to fame since leaving SNL in the ’90s. He is currently promoting a new stand-up special on Netflix titled 100% Fresh.

Though his movies and stand-up specials have had massive success, Sandler is best known for several of his hilarious moments on SNL including Canteen Boy, a sketch with Alec Baldwin, Opera Man and his iconic songs that were performed during Weekend Update segments.
