Ahead of the premiere of Selfie, ABC has challenged viewers to go a day without social media. Are you up for the challenge? (Checking Hypable doesn’t count!)

If you’re reading this, chances are you are guilty of participating a little too much in the social media scene.

You may not post duckface selfies like the main character of Selfie, Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan), but you’ve likely got Facebook, Twitter and/or Tumblr tags up in your browser right now. Are we right?

In the upcoming comedy series, Eliza decides to enlist the help of Henry (John Cho), a marketing genius, to rebrand herself – which includes cutting back on the selfie-taking and Instagramming.

And now, ABC is challenging viewers to do the same! Today, September 16, is the official #SelfieSocialCleanse day, promoted mainly on Twitter:

Basically, the Selfie social media team is testing you to see if you’re as strong as Eliza – and maybe to prove that social media obsession is a real thing, which the media itself should be addressing.

Other ABC shows are taking up the challenge, including the Modern Family team – but we wonder if they are actually planning on not using their account for the whole day… not even to promote the challenge!

Now the question is: can you do it? And do you want to? The day has already started, but maybe you could sign yourself out of Twitter and other social media sites for the rest of the day, turn off your phone, and go outside? Bake a cake, read a book, and give your friends and family your undivided attention.

Selfie premieres in exactly two weeks, airing Tuesday, September 30 at 8/7c. You can watch the pilot episode on Hulu now, and share your thoughts in the comments!
