ABC has announced that Grey’s Anatomy will be back for at least two more seasons, How to Get Away with Murder is getting a sixth season, and Station 19 is getting a third season!

TGIT fans can let out a sigh of relief as their favorite shows will be back next year! Grey’s Anatomy will notably get its 16 and 17th seasons in the coming years, continuing its reign as the longest running medical drama on television to date.

Interestingly, executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff is going to take control of both Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 in order to help create a more “seamless crossover narrative on both series.” It looks like ABC is looking to continue to mix the storylines on the series together.

Krista Vernoff replied to the news saying, “I’m thrilled to continue at the helm of Grey’s Anatomy, and I’m honored and energized by the opportunity to run Station 19, as well. To expand upon the world Stacy McKee created, and further merge it with the world of Grey’s, is an exciting challenge,”

The crossover events between Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 have proven successful for ABC. With their most recent crossover episodes, which aired on May 2, 2019, won their Thursday night time slots among Adults 18-49 (live +3 day ratings). It also brought Station 19 its 2nd highest-rated telecast since the show premiered.

Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder and Station 19 creator Shonda Rhimes also reacted to the news saying, “Everyone at Shondaland is thrilled that our fans’ commitment to TGIT continues.”

“We are so proud of Krista and Pete and the work they do. Making the choice to have Krista oversee Station 19 was easy — the creativity she brings to the Grey’s Anatomy universe continues a tradition of storytelling we hold dear,” she added.
