ABC has just confirmed that the dream of most Avengers fans is coming true. The Avengers world will be crossing over into television.

Thanks to Deadline for confirming the news that was only speculated upon after Disney confirmed that Joss Whedon would be creatively handling Avengers 2 along with an Avengers-themed television show. According to the release, the pilot will begin production immediately.

Before we even knew what the show would be about, it had been treated as a “high-concept cop show,” so it might be safe to expect a superhero-themed version of Law and Order with a kooky Whedonesque spin. Currently, Whedon is slated to direct the pilot, but the director’s chair for the entire show remains unoccupied.

A cast list hasn’t yet been confirmed, but fans are hoping for the return of Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders as Nick Fury and Maria Hill as well as the return of agents Barton and Romanoff in the forms of Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson.

Currently, the main players of The Avengers (Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo) are rumored to make cameos every now and then, but again, no actual confirmation has been offered. Another rumor deals with the idea that the show has the potential explore the heroes and villains that haven’t yet been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as give more backstory into the peacekeeping organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.

Whatever happens, we can be certain that the show will lead up to Avengers 2.

We at Hypable look forward to bringing you the latest news about the upcoming show, tentatively titled S.H.I.E.L.D..
