Amongst several predicable renewals and cancelations today ABC has surprised us with this one: They’ve officially ordered a second season of their original musical comedy Galavant!

The network’s Monty Python-inspired comedy made a splash last year when it announced that Disney legend Alan Menken was going to be composing several (if not all) of the show’s original songs. That, combined with a star-studded cast including Ricky Gervais, John Stamos, and Hugh Bonneville, meant that the network was aiming for huge ratings.

Unfortunately the show did not deliver big ratings. It did debut to 7.42 million viewers, but when the season finale came around it sank to a meager 4.37 million, leaving several critics to assume it would be canceled. Plus, no one from ABC or the show had even spoken about Galavant’s fate, so we all assumed the first season was all we were going to get.

Since then fans have been hopeful that they’d hear good news about Galavant, and that hope was not wasted. We’ll be able to enjoy a new adventure and find out what happened to Isabella when season 2 premieres within the next year.
