A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 is almost here! We have a few spoiler-free teasers to get you ready for all the drama and disguises to come.

A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 will continue telling the sad tale of the Baudelaire orphans. This season will consist of 10 episodes, covering the next five books in the series. All episodes will premiere on Netflix March 30.

Hypable has had a chance to watch the first eight episodes and we can’t wait to share all our favorite parts. We’ll have a full review for you before the series drops, but here are a few clues we can give you in the mean time.

There is a new character

In season one, we got the charming Sara Canning as Mr. Poe’s secretary Jacquelyn. Fans were hesitant at first because this character wasn’t in the books. She quickly — at least for me — became an integral part of the Baudelaire’s story and helped tell the essence of the stories, even if she wasn’t telling them with all the same details we got in the books.

In A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2, we get another new character that wasn’t in the books. This character adds even more to the story, giving us a few answers and raising more questions.

Neil Patrick Harris sings again

NPH is back as Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 and he slays his role again this season. He does all the characters and voices we would expect from Count Olaf. We get to hear his voice in the theme song again, too. Each episode brings its own twist to the song like we heard in the first season.

We also get to hear a few more performances in the episodes. NPH’s voice brings layers to Count Olaf that make him all the more charismatic and all the more evil.

We finally learn what cakesniffer means

The books in A Series of Unfortunate Events leave quite a few unsolved mysteries. This season, we’re getting the answer to at least one of them.

In The Austere Academy book, Carmelita Spats calls people she doesn’t like “cakesniffers.” It’s is an insult with some irony, as the “cake” part of the word makes it seem rather delicious. There’s a specific scene in one of the episodes that finally shows us what this bizarre insult means. I’m glad we’ll be getting that mystery solved after all these years.

There is a Bob Ross cameo

A Series of Unfortunate Events is known for its self-awareness and pop culture references. There are multiple times throughout season 1 that the characters refer to TV shows and streaming platforms. In one instance, they even break the forth wall to do it.

We’ll get to see more pop culture references like that in A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2. Keep your eye out in The Ersatz Elevator episodes for a glance at Bob Ross, whose happy trees are a welcome sight in these dire circumstances.

Yessica Haircut comes back

The first disguise Count Olaf ever donned in the series was that of Yessica Haircut. He used the name to get past the secretary Jacquelyn and into see Mr. Poe at the bank. While Olaf has moved on to bigger and better disguises this season, we do see the return of Yessica Haircut in A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2, though it’s not in the way you might expect (this is A Series of Unfortunate Events after all and things rarely go the way we expect them to).

The costumes are killer

One of the most unexpected pleasures of A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 are the costumes. I knew the costumes for The Ersatz Elevator would be stylish and that was confirmed by their appearance in the trailer for season 2. The pinstripe suits the Baudelaires and the Squalors wear are on point.

I wasn’t expecting all the other costumes to be just as (ahem) killer. We get a few more costume changes this season than last as everyone wears more disguises. There is one point where Sunny wears some yellow clothes and a cute red cowboy hat. As awful as the stories in this show are, I couldn’t help but smile at how cute she was.

Nathan Fillion is delightful

Perhaps the most anticipated element of A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2 is Nathan Fillion’s character Jacque Snicket. I can’t reveal too many details about his character or plot line, but I can tell you that Fillion is a delightful addition to the show.

He balances the show’s serious mysteries with the sometimes silly tone very well, never belittling the Baudelaire’s plight, but occasionally giving a sly smirk to the viewers.
