The first trailer for A Most Violent Year, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, has been released.

J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year is set during the winter of 1981 in New York City during one of the most violent years in the history of the city. The story depicts on an immigrant family trying to capitalize on opportunities during the violence.

A Most Violent Year has a fantastic cast that includes the aforementioned Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) as well as David Oyelowo and Albert Brooks.

The above trailer gives us a good look at what the film’s tone will be, and more than once during that trailer we got some pretty intense The Godfather vibes. Though it would be incredible for A Most Violent Year to be as great of a film and important for cinematic history as The Godfather or The Godfather: Part II, we obviously aren’t going to set our expectations that high.

Still, there’s a good chance A Most Violent Year will be a terrific film. Chandor is coming off the great All Is Lost, the other film last year featuring a stranded solo actor (Robert Redford) trying to reach home that wasn’t Gravity (and many people liked it even more).

It’s a big year for Chastain. Between The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Interstellar, Miss Julie, and A Most Violent Year, 2014 is a year of several incredible projects for Chastain. Her costars Isaac (The Two Faces of January, Mojave) and Oyelowo (Interstellar, Selma) are similarly busy, and with the three of them this is definitely a movie to watch. Will this be the Chastain film that is her best chance for an Oscar this year? It’s very possible.
