Ever wish a sequel would come out for your favorite flick? Since Hollywood has gone sequel-crazy in the last few years and are often shooting sequels for movies fans aren’t even interested in seeing, we thought we’d take a look at seven sequels that should be made.

Now, the films we’ve included are incredible and some of our favorites of all time, and more than likely a sequel is the last thing fans would want to see happen – but with Hollywood’s inability to come up with anything original as of late we thought we’d at least attempt to guide them in the right direction.

‘Lost in Translation’

Bill Murray had never said so little, yet been so funny. With a young Scarlett Johansson making her debut (to the general public), this film was definitely a surprise hit in 2003. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, the film revolved around Murray’s character Bob Harris, an over-the-hill actor (not exactly a stretch), and a young graduate Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) who meet in Tokyo.

Due to their inability to speak with nearly anyone else during their trip to Japan, the two begin to gravitate towards one another and build a unique relationship. The film ends with Murray giving Johansson a passionate kiss before jumping in his cab to head to the airport, leaving a great ending to jump directly into a sequel.

Sequel:

Charlotte heads back to her hotel and her husband is at yet another photo shoot. She packs, leaving him only a Dear John letter and heads to the airport to catch the first flight out of Tokyo. Bob can’t just go back home to his miserable life, with his annoying wife who can’t decide which carpet color she wants, after being with the intriguing and chic Charlotte. There’s much to explore in this sequel. Sure the premise might get a bit “lost” if they wind-up back together in LA or New York, where there’s no language barrier, but the chemistry was spot-on between these two. With Scarlett being an uber-star now and Bill Murray remaining timeless, they’d be just as hilarious to watch in this award-winning film’s sequel: Lost in Manhattan.

‘Se7en’

If you saw this horror-thriller, you’ll know that it was some of Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey’s best work. Directed by David Fincher (The Social Network), this A-list cop duo searching for a killer holds up extremely well since its 1995 release. Kevin Spacey plays a sick, sadistic serial killer that plans out a killing spree in correlation with the ‘seven deadly sins.’ The story is frightening and the acting brinks on perfection.

After all, one of the most famous lines in film history came out of the ending, when Kevin Spacey’s character kills Brad Pitt’s wife and ships him her head in a box. “What’s in the box!” Brad Pitt shoots the killer in a rage and is last seen in a police car with Morgan Freeman assuring he gets any help he needs, which leads into a perfect sequel opportunity.

Sequel:

Pitt is just getting out of the mental hospital, where he’s been treated after his wife’s death and Morgan Freeman is working on a new murder case he just can’t crack. Michael Fassbender stars as the new serial killer, a doctor with a fire fetish who chooses his victims based on how content he finds them with their own lives, due to his life of monotonous work and emotional emptiness. After seeing Fassbender play a cold and calculated robot in Prometheus, he’s very capable of making us squirm in the film’s sequel: 8ight.

‘The Departed’

This film was an absolute masterpiece by director Martin Scorsese, and with its cast of blockbuster-actors, it was a must-see in 2006. DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Wahlberg, Sheen, and Alec Baldwin were perfect in this movie as a mixed-up brood of cops and mobsters. Although most of the central characters died, Wahlberg and Baldwin’s characters were left alive.

The movie ended with Wahlberg putting a bullet into Matt Damon’s character’s head after being revealed a rat and then makes a quick exit. This lends itself nicely to a sequel, and we’ve even heard about a real sequel to this movie coming to fruition at some point.

Sequel:

Wahlberg and Baldwin are still pulling people to the theater and working together with their thick South Boston accents, we could see them working together as a cop duo fighting the mob-void that was left when the the main antagonist Frank Costello (Nicholson) was killed. There’s bound to be a boss on the streets of Boston waiting to take his place and there will be a new round of murders and mob-crime to clean up in the film’s sequel: The Deceased.

‘American Psycho’

This cult thriller released in 2000 put Christian Bale on the map, and if you haven’t seen it, we highly suggest checking it out. Directed by Mary Harron, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, Bale plays the introverted and completely insane Wall Street businessman Patrick Bateman. Bale’s character hates everyone around him, despite living an interesting and financially successful life. The Wall Street psycho finally breaks and goes on a week long killing spree.

Bateman eventually admits his murderous activity to his attorney, who thinks it’s a joke and simply brushes it off. The end of the movie has a voiceover of Bale saying, “This confession has meant nothing,” which leads to an incredible starting point for a juicy sequel.

Sequel:

Bale is still alive, albeit most likely in some legal trouble if he’s caught for his recent murderous streak, but let’s say he isn’t caught and goes back to his day job at his Wall Street firm. Just imagine the inner dialogue Bale could have with himself about his recent murderous rampage, plagued by the fact that he’s allowed to continue living without any repercussions. This would surely drive the serial killer to the brink of another mass killing, resulting in another smart and gory film in the sequel: Wall Street Occupied.

‘Snatch’

Directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes), Snatch is a London-based crime film with an ensemble cast including Jason Statham, Benicio del Toro, and Brad Pitt as a crazy speaking, bare-knuckle boxing pikey (gypsy). Everything that can go wrong, does go wrong in this crime drama, and it’s well received by director Guy Ritchie’s loyal fans and anyone else who’s seen it.

Unfortunately it hasn’t been seen by many average moviegoers. The movie ends up with a mind-bending moment where half the cast gets killed within its final minutes and Pitt gets even with the mobster-bookie who burned his trailer down (with his mother in it). Despite most of the cast being killed off, the main characters are left still breathing.

Sequel:

Guy Ritchie could go anywhere with this film; it has so many plot branches that would be an incredible watch. Brad Pitt as the twisted-speaking gypsy and underground boxing champ is one of his best characters to date, and with Jason Statham’s character finding the film’s sought-after stolen jewel in his mate’s dog’s stomach, they could easily team up to ensure they find the right buyer for the massive 86-carat diamond in the film’s sequel: Skint.

‘I Am Legend’

This 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi triller starring Will Smith was a hit at the theaters. After a man-made virus created to cure cancer spreads and turns 90% of the population into mutated humans, Smith finds himself the only person left in New York and continues his work on the antidote to cure the infected humans. Now you may be thinking, “But Will Smith’s character died…” and you’d be right, but in the director’s alternate ending we see that his character actually lives.

He actually goes with Anna and her son Ethan to the colony in Vermont to find safety and reveal that he’s found the cure. There’s even been talk of a real sequel (or prequel) being made, which leads us to our potential sequel.

Sequel:

Smith’s character still has a lot of work ahead of him, perfecting the antidote and finding ways to administer it to the infected humans. His relationship with Anna is sure to evolve and there’s definitely some new hurdles to get over. The town in Vermont is sure to be weary of outsiders, and especially getting used to the idea of there being a cure to the mutated humans. Smith’s character is sure to keep fighting to return the Earth to the place it once was in the film’s sequel: His Legend.

‘Superbad’

How has this not happened yet? Superbad left us wanting more from the get-go, and with Jonah Hill and Michael Cera blowing up in Hollywood, this is an easy sell. The comedy duo left us after just one insane night of partying with the memorable McLovin and then they were all three headed off to college.

After making his way through his first grueling semester alone, what better way than to have Jonah Hill’s character get himself kicked out of his crummy college so he can go be with his best-bud at Dartmouth University?

Sequel:

McLovin is easily the hippest kid on campus by now and with the bromance we saw between Michael Cera and Jonah Hill, there’s definitely going to be some tension between this friendship trio. Fraternity hazing, campus security tazing, and at least one cameo from Seth Rogan would result in one kick-ass sequel: CrazedHaze.

Interested in watching any of our potential sequels? What are some other sequels that you’d like to see in theaters?
