Julie Plec and company brought a trailer and tons of new details to Comic Con this year, and fans were not disappointed.

5 things we learned at ‘The Originals’ panel today

‘The sins of the past coming to haunt us in the present.’

Michael Narducci (or Professor Narducci as Julie Plec referred to him at the panel) explained that this season is ultimately about reconciling wrongdoings of the past that have returned with a vengeance. Quite literally, this could refer to the Esther and Mikael returns that we have all known about since the finale, but it can also refer to the many atrocities that Klaus has committed over the years that he may not have escaped entirely.

With the Other side completely gone now, Esther may have taken the chance to bring back more Original family members than just herself.

Since the Other Side has disappeared permanently from The Vampire Diaries, clearly we are all curious as to how that event will affect the characters of The Originals. Well, Esther has crossed back to the land of the living, and she may or may not have brought another Original family member with her. (We did get a glimpse of Kol’s daggered corpse in the trailer, and who knows how he ended up there.)

Daniel Sharman’s character, Caleb, will be charming and winning over Davina.

One of the most anticipated new members of The Originals season 2 is Daniel Sharman as Kaleb. Details about his motivations and what exactly his goal is in cozying up to Davina are still unknown, but we do know that when he was cast he was described as “Intent on wreaking havoc, wooing women and causing as much chaos as possible, Kaleb has been deeply wounded by a horrific family upbringing and covers his emotional bruises with a wicked sense of humor, as well as a wicked temper. When you’re on his good side, there’s no better party. Get on his bad side? Well, you’ll regret it.” He’s a classic bad boy, so he’ll probably have no problem shacking up with the outcasted Davina for a while.

Josh was supposed to die 3 or so episodes after he was introduced, but the writers loved him too much.

Good news Josh fans! Fan favorite character Josh is also the writers’ favorite. We found out last night that not only was Josh supposed to die 3 episodes into his character’s arc on The Originals, but that Julie Plec has seriously considered killing him off since. We are certainly thrilled to hear that Josh will not only be around, but he may also have a chance at love. When asked about it Narducci mentioned that not only will Josh stumble across love, but that it will probably happen at the least opportune moment.

Klaus’ use of ‘Sweetheart’ is a direct nod to the book fans

Joseph Morgan informed us that calling the young ladies in Klaus’ life “Sweetheart” is a direct nod to a scene in the book after Klaus kills Vicki and writes “Sweetheart” in blood on the mirror. We couldn’t help but love that although The Vampire Diaries and The Originals do not follow the books as far as plot goes, Joseph Morgan thought it was important enough to give something to the fans that aren’t just fans of the show, but of the source material as well.
