Now that we know there will be more from J.K. Rowling in the Wizarding World in the Harry Potter spinoff movie series, we can’t help but wonder if a few of our favorite characters may make an appearance or two, at least the ones old enough to have been relevant in Newt Scamander’s time. Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Neville are out, but there are still a few famous faces that could pop in here and there.

Here are 5 of our favorite characters that we think could get a passing mention or short cameo throughout the telling of the Newt Scamander stories in the Harry Potter universe:

Albus Dumbledore

We aren’t entirely sure of Albus’ age, as we’re not sure if Rowling ever gave it an exact number of years, but he was clearly alive and well 70 years before Harry was born, and may have had run-ins with Newt.

Mr. Scamander was Headmaster of Hogwarts before Armando Dippet, who was replaced by Dumbledore, so it’s entirely possible that Newt may have been Dumbledore’s Headmaster during his time at Hogwarts. So could we see a young Dumbledore during his school years at some point this series?? Or maybe a slightly older Dumbledore just dealing with Ariana’s death?

Either way, he’s one character we would love to see make an appearance in the Harry Potter spinoff movie series.

Mr. Ollivander

If there’s one thing we know about Ollivander, it’s that he is a bit old. 70 years ago, the wand shop would have been in business in Diagon Alley, making and selling wands for the good witches and wizards of the greater London area, and since Mr. Ollivander has run the shop since roughly the 1930s he could have taken one last adventure before beginning his tenure as shopkeeper.

Could we possibly see him pop up as a background character during this new Harry Potter spinoff movie series? Maybe Ollivander goes to investigate some new wand cores in NYC and stumbles across an old friend?

Bathilda Bagshot

The author of A History of Magic and born in 1881, Bathilda could possibly be beginning her career as a magical historian during Newt Scamander’s days. Her job as historian has surely involved some significant travel time, and we’re sure she had occasions to visit the United States from time to time for research.

She is also the Great-Aunt of Gellert Grindelwald, who, 70 years before Harry’s story begins, could have already been the young friend of Albus Dumbledore, so there is always a chance Bathilda could appear in one form or another in this new Harry Potter spinoff movie series. Maybe she too, likes to travel?

Auntie Muriel

If there’s one thing Ron has told us about Auntie Muriel, it’s that she is quite old – and rude. As we don’t know much about her character, it is always possible that she had a myriad of adventures in her past much like Ron, Ginny, and much of the rest of the Weasley family. Not that we expect to see her, but as she was more than likely alive and kicking during Scamander’s glory days, there is always the chance of a passing mention or two.

And who knows, there is always a possibility that she knew him well. Wouldn’t it be fun to see her as Newt’s sidekick as he adventures in New York City in the new Harry Potter spinoff movie series?

Professor Binns

He may have died in the staff room in front of the fire, but prior to that, Professor Binns was a normal wizard who enjoyed teaching his favorite subject at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Could we possibly see Professor Binns alive and well in this new Harry Potter spinoff movie series?

We know that Newt Scamander’s story (at least the first installment) will probably be set in New York City, but that doesn’t mean that we may not get a trip to the castle, or to meet a few friends of his while on holiday. It would be very good fun to see if Binns was as monotonous and drone-like during his living days as he is post-life.
