As a Potterhead, YA and romance reader, TV junkie, and in general a pop culture super-consumer, a lot of my favorite things tend to have one (very awesome) thing in common: a badass heroine.

From Hermione to Aelin, Clarke to Alicia Florrick — there’s nothing like seeing a lady take charge and quite frankly, just knowing her sh*t. But there’s another trend within this camaraderie-of-awesome that I can’t get enough of and that is Badass Lady Hackers.

Even if she doesn’t technically “hack” computers, there’s some serious tech-genius in these characters. And as someone who really only knows how to bold something when typing code, I’m continuously amazed at their skills and love that they’re representing in such a male-dominated field.

So I’ve compiled a list of my favorite BLH’s and my hope is to just keep adding more and more ladies to it:

1. Felicity Smoak from ‘Arrow’:

Hilariously unfiltered, adorkable, and is ALL of us when staring at Oliver Queen shirtless. And not to mention she’s a straight up genius. Oliver couldn’t save the city without her and she knows it, which I love even more!

2. Penelope Garcia from ‘Criminal Minds’:

Knows exactly who she is, makes no apologies for it, and is definitely who you want on your side in cyber warfare. She also gets to say naughty things to Shemar Moore/Derek Morgan in the show, making her not only a BLH, but a BLH who owns her sexuality.

3. Raven from ‘The 100’:

NBD or anything, she can just PROGRAM A SUPER COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS MINDS. And make a spaceship work. And knows how to spacewalk. And basically saves all their lives with her giant brain.

4. Angela from ‘Bones’:

Codes/makes/runs/designs software for facial reconstruction, recreates crime scenes on her super computer, can find literally anything if it’s online, and all in the name of solving murders.

5.Willow from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’:

The OG Badass Lady Hacker who was breaking through firewalls and encryptions while you were waiting for the dialup AOL to connect.

And finally, a brand new addition to my list, Allison Trent from Wired, the new novel by #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood. Not only is Allison crazy smart, but she uses her powers for good, or “hacktivism” as I like to think the cool kids call it.

For example, returning seniors’ financial savings to them when they were taken advantage of by a sheisty “investor” guy. Or teaming up with a smoking hot FBI agent to track down a leak in his department. She’s basically a coding ninja and I love that she doesn’t take any crap from the boys club of agents that surround her.

So if you love Badass Lady Hackers as much as I do, add Wired to your must-read list and snag a copy for yourself today!
