The sequel to the massively successful Zack Snyder film, 300, Rise of an Empire finally sees its first trailer land online.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder started a graphic novel genre explosion when his incredible film 300 brought actor Gerard Butler to the big screen as King Leonidas. While Snyder is simply a producer of the sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire features a similar look as the first film, along with his film wife and Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey. Watch the first trailer below:

300: Rise of an Empire focuses on Persian king-turned-god Xerxes, who leads an army against Greek forces. Though having quite little training, the Greek army are reportedly led by a great general named Themistocles. The film was written by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, and was directed by Noam Murro.

Previously, the Xerxes depicter Rodrigo Santoro revealed that the upcoming film would be somewhat of a “spin-off” because “it’s not exactly a prequel, it’s not a sequel.” He went on to say that, “It takes place in the same time, you start a little earlier but then you see that it’s like a different point of view, a different camera, a different angle. While that battle was happening, the one that you saw in 300, there was another battle happening next to it and you will have a chance to see all of that happening and how they interact. I don’t want to ruin it.”

300: Rise of an Empire is set to hit theaters on March 7, 2014. Noam Murro is directing, who is known for the 2008 film Smart People with Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker. Rodrigo Santoro is reprising his role from the original 300 as the Persian king Xerxes, as well as Lena Headey, and Sullivan Stapleton (December Boys) plays Athenian general Themistocles.
