While most musicians settle for releasing new music on iTunes, rock band 30 Seconds To Mars took a bit of a different approach for their latest single, “Up In The Air” and decided to launch it into space as well as onto the airwaves.

Though the band sent the new single into space in compact disc form aboard a Falcon 9 rocket which took off from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on March 1, fans of the band here on Earth can now listen to the song in its entirety for themselves.

In a new interview with the Huffington Post, frontman Jared Leto said the band’s new single “has to do with getting to a point in your life where you’re ready to let go of the past, embrace change and become more of who you really are.”

Fans who have been following 30 Seconds To Mars for years might be surprised to find that the song is a bit different than the material the band normally puts out at first listen. Though the track has a gritty rock feel, it’s definitely more on the radio friendly side of the spectrum.

“Up In The Air” is the first single off 30 Seconds To Mars’ upcoming fourth studio album, Love Lust Faith + Dreams, slated to be released on May 21.
