Last week Fox announced that a new season of 24 was in development as a limited engagement event. Today, the network’s president is discussing several aspects including when we can expect it to air.

The 24 new season, titled Live Another Day, will likely air beginning May 2014. “It will arc from May through the summer, where we will probably then premiere our second event series that will arc into the fall,” Kevin Reilly told Collider. “That’s one of the ways we’re going to be able to link the season together, get out of this curtain call in May, and break down this notion of the fall season.”

He also spoke about the decision to make the 24 new season 12 episodes instead of the standard 24. During its eight season run which ended in 2010, the show was applauded for the fact that each episode played out one hour of storyline. So how will they handle an entire 24 hour storyline in half the episodes? 24 will “take what we would see as the best 12 hours and go in chronological order of the day, but skip hours. It may go from 7 am to 8 am to 10 am, and then 11 am and 12 pm to 3 pm. It will be dictated by the plot.” Creator Howard Gordon is energized by the idea, Reilly added.

Reilly also explained that 24 was canceled in the first place because they wanted to go out strong and were feeling creatively exhausted with the show.

Kiefer Sutherland is signed on for the new season of 24 but no other cast members have been confirmed at this time.
