There’s good news today that will help ensure the quality of 24‘s new season titled “Live Another Day:” Long-time 24 director Jon Cassar is back in the saddle.

Cassar directed 59 episodes of 24 during six seasons when it originally aired on Fox. He is now executive producer and director of 24‘s 2014 season “Live Another Day,” which the network is billing as a limited-engagement event.

“I’m excited to call ‘action!’ again on the set of the resurrected 24,” said Cassar. “Considering I was not involved in Season 8, this… gives me the chance for closure on a show that is very important to me.”

Added showrunner Howard Gordon, “Jon was a profoundly integral part of 24 creatively and culturally. It doesn’t feel like it would be 24 without him, and we’re all just really thrilled to be working with him again.”

Cassar will direct multiple episodes of 24: Live Another Day, including the premiere episode and the follow-up. The new season of 24 will be 12 episodes in length and still following a 24-hour period of time.

24‘s new season will “likely” premiere in May 2014. Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, will be returning to star. No other casting deals have been made at this time.

In making the announcement in May, Gordon spoke highly of what they had planned for the batch of new episodes. “The character has evolved through the years, and this new and exciting event series format is perfect to tell the next chapter of his story and continue to reflect how the world is changing. Fans can rest assured that the Jack they know and love will be back.” Thanks in part to Cassar, we can be sure of that.

Thanks, TV Line.
