The 21 Jump Street franchise may be getting a spinoff movie with female leads.

Not only is the 21 Jump Street getting another sequel, but according to The Tracking Board, a female-led spinoff is also in the works. Because when you’ve got a successful franchise, well… grip it tight and never let go.

Comedy Central’s Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs have been hired to pen the screenplay for this potential spinoff, “based on the tone of the reboot series” but with female characters.

If this sounds a lot like Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock’s The Heat, well, you wouldn’t be far off, as the two franchises have often been compared. (And, interestingly, Aniello and Downs have previously directed Melissa McCarthy in the comedic short Emmy Training Day.)

The difference here would be the “Jump Street” banner, which might help sell a few extra tickets.

It’s not surprising that the wildly successful 21 Jump Street franchise led by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would be looking to expand, and a female-led movie seems like a solid bet for the studio.

After all, this is also the Ghostbusters reboot strategy; we’ll see two different movies set in the same shared universe, one with male leads and one with female leads.

Meanwhile, Tatum and Hill are set to reprise their roles in 23 Jump Street, the third movie in the reboot series. The original 21 Jump Street TV show ran from 1987-1991, and starred Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise.

23 Jump Street is written by Rodney Rothman. It does not yet have a release date, and right now, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are not expected to return as directors.
