Disney is considering taking hold of another major movie studio, according to CNBC.

20th Century Fox and Disney have reportedly spoken in recent weeks about the latter purchasing Fox Movies and several areas of their television business. If it happens, the deal would be one of the biggest shake-ups in Hollywood since Disney’s acquisitions of Lucasfilm and Marvel.

In recent months, according to CNBC, senior management at 20th Century Fox have come to believe that they can’t grow their news and sports businesses while still juggling TV production and film. For Disney, well, we know they love owning as much of Hollywood as possible*.

To avoid conflicts, Disney would not acquire the Fox broadcast network or any of the Fox Sports properties, as the Mouse already owns ABC and ESPN. They also wouldn’t buy Fox News, Fox Business, or Fox’s local affiliates.

But Disney would buy the film division, and that’s significant. Properties like X-Men, Ice Age, Percy Jackson, Alien, The Maze Runner, and Planet of the Apes would head to Disney. And you know what Disney likes to do: Keep franchises running for as long as possible. They’d also buy the popular FX network, which houses American Horror Story, Legion, You’re The Worst, Fargo, The Americans, and Atlanta.

FX and Fox Movies would be significant acquisitions on their own when you remember that Disney is readying their own streaming service to compete with Netflix.

CNBC cautions that the talks are “not currently” active, but the studios have been discussing the acquisition on and off, thus they might resume in the future.

Fox has also done some great YA adaptations like The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns. In the pipeline: Love, Simon (aka Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda) and The Hate U Give.
