The MTV Movie and TV Awards nominations have been announced, without the usual gender divide that put actors and actresses into separate categories.

In what is hopefully a sign of the times (sorry), the 2017 MTV Movies and TV Awards have decided to do away with the Best Female and Male Performance categories, having just a single category for Best Actor in a Movie, and one for Best Actor in a Show.

Thus we have Emma Watson and Taraji P. Henson competing against Hugh Jackman and Daniel Kaluuya, while Gina Rodriguez squares off against Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

It’s nice to see MTV put in this effort, which doesn’t only serve to break down the gender divide but is a huge show of inclusivity towards actors who either don’t identify as either male or female or identify as both.

In general the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards nominations are pretty great, with Taraji P. Henson’s Hidden Figures character nominated as “Best Hero” right alongside Stephen Amell’s Arrow, and all of the movies and shows nominated in the Best American Story category represent minorities.

My favorite part of all this is that the Demogorgon from Stranger Things is nominated as Best Villain though, only because if it wins, it’ll have to actually appear to accept its award! ?
